Moonlight in Latent Space: Chirality and Structural Correspondence Between Beethoven's Op. 27 No. 2 and Machine Learning Mechanisms

arXiv:2606.14612v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We show that the three movements of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" (Op. 27 No. 2) instantiate three distinct machine learning architectures – not by analogy, but by structural correspondence. Through computational analysis of the score (entropy, Jensen-Shannon divergence, dissonance, hand distributional overlap, self-similarity matrices, temporal memory decay, and contextual pitch embeddings), we establish four counterintuitive findings: (1) perceived musical "temperature" is governed by throughput, not distributional width; (2) the lightest movement carries the highest dissonance; (3) the movements implement streaming, recurrent, and periodic positional encoding memory architectures; and (4) the same pitch class acquires different contextual identities across movements, analogous to contextual vs.static embeddings in NLP – and unsupervised clustering recovers the tonal structure without music-theoretic input. We construct a reverse sonification (decoding analytical features back into MIDI) and quantify the chirality of the encode-decode cycle: what distributions preserve and sequential ordering destroys. Prompted by a listener's observation that the decoded piece sounds like "mirror isomers that can't be superimposed," the chirality measurement reveals reconstruction loss increasing monotonically with n-gram order. Bootstrap baselines and subsample checks confirm all movements carry sequential information above noise, though raw values are confounded by sample size. Cross-domain comparison shows natural language has higher chirality than music, reflecting stronger sequential constraints.

Random Schrödinger operators on manifolds and abstract bounds for multiplier-type operators

arXiv:2606.19075v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We study random Schrödinger operators on closed Riemannian manifolds with Anderson-type potentials. We prove high-probability spectral inclusion bounds showing that eigenvalues remain close to those of the Laplacian, with deviations controlled by a norm of the potential coefficients. Compared with deterministic bounds, this yields a square-root cancellation gain. The proof is based on a general principle showing that randomisation improves operator norm bounds for multiplier-type operators, which we formulate in both discrete and continuous settings.

Factors associated with the uptake of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine: The experiences of postpartum women attending child welfare clinics in three rural districts in the Western Region of Ghana.

Background Intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) is a key preventive strategy. However, optimal uptake remains inconsistent despite high antenatal care (ANC) attendance. This study assessed factors associated with IPTp-SP uptake and explored the experiences of postpartum women in rural Ghana. Methods A mixed-method study was conducted among 1,155 postpartum women attending child welfare clinics in Jomoro, Prestea-Huni Valley and Ellembelle districts of the Western Region of Ghana. Quantitative data were collected using structured questionnaires and analysed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. Qualitative data from in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were analysed thematically to explore womens experiences and perceptions. Results Overall, 73.5% (812/1105) of respondents received at least three doses of SP during pregnancy, in line with WHO recommendations. The most common number of doses received was three doses (31.5%, 348/1105), followed by four doses (26.4%, 292/1105), while a smaller proportion (8.1%, 90/1105) received only one dose. Knowledge of malaria in pregnancy was generally high: 92.7% (1027/1155) of respondents correctly identified its mode of transmission, while 75.1% (830/1155) and 83.5% (923/1155) were aware of the effects of malaria on pregnancy and the foetus, respectively. Uptake was not significantly associated with socio-demographic characteristics, including age, education, occupation, marital status, gravidity, and parity (p > 0.05). However, number of ANC visits was significantly associated with uptake (p = 0.006). Although not statistically significant, lower uptake was observed among peri-urban residents and uninsured women. Qualitative findings indicated that while women recognized the benefits of IPTp-SP, side effects such as nausea, dizziness, and discomfort, as well as challenges with tablet formulation and dosing negatively influenced adherence. Conclusions IPTp-SP uptake was high and largely independent of socio-demographic factors but strongly influenced by ANC attendance. Addressing experiential barriers and strengthening patient-centered counselling during ANC may further improve uptake and adherence.

Emission of time-ordered photon pairs from a coherently-driven Kerr microcavity

arXiv:2601.06468v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Weakly-interacting many-body systems possess remarkable quantum properties that are essential components of quantum technologies, and constitute a topic of fundamental interest. Here we show that in a solid-state nonlinear microcavity embedding discrete modes of exciton-dressed photons, we can isolate a single eigenmode of quantum fluctuations from the much brighter coherent fraction of the field. In this regime, we perform frequency- and time-resolved correlations measurements between photons on the red and blue side of the fluctuations spectrum. When the average number of fluctuation quanta is smaller than one, we observe the formation of large pairwise time-ordered correlations: red photon first and blue photon second. We show that this peculiar time-ordering correlation emerges spontaneously from the interplay between frequency-resolved detection, and the non-trivial internal quantum structure of the elementary fluctuations.
